Living in the lower mainland we get the privilege of attending several events that others are unable to attend only due to weather conditions and various venues.

One such venue is the ice track in Whistler, which is considered to be the fastest ice track ever designed for bobsleigh and skeleton athletes.

This weekend (December 2nd & 3rd play host for the first BMW IBSF World Cup event in Whistler, home of Vancouver 2010 Olympics & Paralympics.

This officially kick’s off the pre-Olympic season for bobsleigh and skeleton athletes prior to the Athlete’s traveling to Lake Placid for the last stop of 2016 season.

Last season Kaillie Humphries and Melissa Lotholz dominated the circuit, earning a spot on every World Cup podium winning four gold, two silver and two bronze.

In addition the duo clinch/secured eight World Cup medals at Crystal Globe award to the overall circuit winners.

Given the recent success of Canada’s Bobsleigh athletes at their home track it should be remembered that in 2016 Chris Spring and Lascelles Brown won their first World Cup title on home soil after Humphries and Lothloz won gold in track recording setting time.

The World Cup opener will begin on December 2 with the women’s skeleton and two-man bobsleigh. Fans can check out the action live in Whistler, or stream the competition on ibsf.org.
