One of the new members of the Canucks managed to record his 300th NHL career win Tuesday night in a 4-1 win for Canucks over the Hurricanes on home ice.
The Canucks (6-3-0) managed to post their third win in four games, while the Hurricanes (0-6-2) continue to struggle and currently remain winless after the first eight games of the season.
Carolina still remains without a victory in seven games played in Vancouver dating back to October 1999.
Brad Richardson led Vancouver with two goals, while his second was put into an empty net in the final minute of play with the “Caines” pulling the tender for the extra attacker.
The Canucks also got tallies from Linden Vey and Jannik Hansen who led 1-0 and 3-0 by periods in addition to seeing Henrik Sedin and Radim Vrbata extend their point streaks to five games.
Jiri Tlusty replied for the Hurricanes on an assist from captain Eric Staal, who returned after missing five games with an upper-body injury. But Staal’s effect on Carolina’s offence was limited as the visitors were forced to try and play catch-up early without any success.
Carolina goaltender Cam Ward bore the loss although his club outshot the Canucks 30-25. Vancouver went 1 for 3 on the power play while the ‘Canes were blanked on the same number of man-advantage opportunities.
Richardson opened the scoring at 1:32 in the first, with him streaking broke down the right wing boards cutting to the net and lift a shot over Ward’s glove.
Both teams combined for only six shots in the first 10 and a half minutes, and Carolina managed to put only two on net.
Vey got the Canucks up 2-0 on a PP only 50 seconds in the second period and while playing the back end he fired from the side of the net.
This marker came just after Daniel Sedin was standing alone in the slot, somehow ended up missing Vrbata’s pass but with “puck luck” it continued to Vey, who wasn’t about to miss a chance like this.
Hansen put Vancouver up 3-0 at 18:39 of the second on a strange deflection of Yanick Weber’s point shot on goal, which was needed to seal the win.
The “Caine’s” spoiled Miller’s shutout at 11:05 of the third as he scored off a scramble with the Miller well out of his crease and net.
The Canucks face-off against Montreal, while the Hurricanes make the trek home to face=-off against Arizona, but not till Saturday.
