Living in the lower mainland we are fortunate of having the luxury to play various sports year round, especially given the weather have.
Sure we complain about the rain we get periodically and while not over thrilled about it, it beats the snow that other parts of Canada and the world get.
One such sport is Golf, to which the Province turns out some impressive Golfers, many of which actually achieve their “Tour Card” in various Tours they compete in, while others simply compete on the provincial stage.
Sportswave has the luxury to cover various events and we can and should mention that all events treat us in a professional manner, which we sincerely appreciate.

Sure we have the like of Adam Hadwin and others, but now we are hearing that the Pacific Northwest Golf Association have Selected the 2018 Players of the Year, all of which are well deserved.
The PNGA Player of the Year candidates are all nominated or chosen by the various state and provincial golf associations that comprise the PNGA.
These are made up of Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington and those chosen are selected by a vote of the PNGA Championship Committee as well as the members of the Northwest Golf Media Association.
The awards will be officially presented at the Annual meeting of the Pacific Northwest Golf Association.
Men’s Player of the Year
Chris Crisologo (Richmond, B.C.)
Crisologo graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2018, where he was named First Team All-GNAC all four years playing for the men’s golf team.
He won the BC Amateur and South American Amateur (2018) and qualified for the U.S. Amateur for the second year in a row.
At the RBC Canadian Open (tied for 45th) competing against PGA Tour players and was a semi-finalist for the 2018 Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year award and is also a member of the Canadian National Amateur Team.
Women’s Player of the Year
Mary Parsons (Delta, B.C.)
She is a junior on the Indiana University women’s golf team and has set the school’s single-season stroke average record in her freshman year when she set a new school record for lowest 18-hole round.
In 2018, Parsons won the BC Women’s Amateur, and made the Round of 64 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur and Round of 16 at the Women’s Western Amateur.
She also tied for 43rd in both the Canadian Women’s Amateur and Big-10 Conference Championship.
Men’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year
Reid Hatley (Hayden Lake, Idaho)
He was named the Men’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive year and won the 2018 Men’s Mid-Amateur for both the PNGA and WSGA.
He was also a quarter-finalist in the PNGA Men’s Amateur event that saw him compete against college players.
He finished third in the Washington State Amateur and tied for sixth (Mexican Amateur) and qualified for the US Mid-Amateur and also tied for 15th in the Northwest Open.
Here he competed against the region’s PGA professionals and was fortunate to be selected as the 2018 WSGA Men’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year.
Women’s Mid-Amateur Player of the Year
Gretchen Johnson (Portland, Ore.)
She made her mark on the regional and national scene in 2018 and won the OGA Women’s Tournament of Champions.
She placed second in the Oregon Women’s Mid-Amateur, runner-up in the PNGA Women’s Mid-Amateur, and made the Round of 16 at the Oregon Women’s Amateur.
