2016 Minto Cup Hits LEC

The 2016 Minto Cup kicked off at the Langley Events Centre with more excitement that looking for that hidden Easter egg your Mom hid the day before, then forgot where it was hidden.

Friday’s media conference saw all four teams represented, with team Coaches, Captains, Alternates and Management introduced to the local media, followed by a Q & A.

Minto Cup LECThe event was well attended, but missing in the event was the major market TV and Radio Stations, such as our local sports talk radio, which is set up to promote sports.

Probably the most hype is the non-return of Six Nations who was ousted in the four straight by Orangeville, who did mention it was a tough series from start to finish.

We know what Delta and Coquitlam bring to the sport, but the talent from Calgary and Orangeville remains a mystery.

For Coquitlam, its like a returning visit from a lost Aunt, but for Delta it’s like a “kid in a candy store” who want it all.

Both teams in the eastern provinces play “coy” about what they bring west this year, but we know it’s going to be entertaining.

Upon entering the parking lot we saw numerous fans lined up to purchase tickets and in conversation with the LEC staff, the tickets were week long passes, which only adds to the hype of the event.

The week prior to the Championship the BC Junior A Lacrosse League Commissioner Karl Christenson made inroads for both Coquitlam and Delta by booking floor time so as to get used to the carpet, the bounce off the turf and the overall atmosphere of the building.

While it might take a while for both teams, once the first games are in the books, the players will figure it out.

Make plans on coming out to support Canada’s National Summer Sport and the 2016 Minto Cup at the Langley EventsBCJALL Centre.
