2015 Superstar Series
The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club has announced the first half of the 2015 Superstar Series presented by Blakes & BC Sports Hall of Fame.
Toronto Blue Jays infielder Tony Fernandez will help the Canadians wrap up the first home stand of 2015 making his first appearance at Scotiabank Field on Tuesday, June 30th.
Known as one of the best middle infielders of his time, the native of San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic played for 17 Major League seasons making four All-Star Game appearances and two World Series appearances.
These included the 1993 Championship with the Blue Jays just three years after being traded away for Joe Carter and Hall of Fame second baseman Roberto Alomar.
On Monday, July 13th, the Canadians will welcome 26-year Major League veteran Tommy John to Scotiabank Field.
Although his name is synonymous with a surgical procedure, John amassed 288 victories over 26 seasons in the Major Leagues including eight years with the New York Yankees (1979-82, 1986-89).
His 162 complete games, four All-Star Game appearances and overall longevity on the mound make him one of the more intriguing personalities in baseball as he was able to pitch into his mid-40’s after receiving the surgical procedure that later on would bear his name.
Note:
CC Sabathia of the New York Yankees is currently the active leader in career complete games with 38 (15 years).
John spent 15 years on the BBWAA Hall of Fame ballot reaching as high as 31.7% in his final year of eligibility.
In addition to playing with the Yankees, John pitched with the Chicago White Sox (7 years), Los Angeles Dodgers (6 years), California Angels (4 years), Cleveland Indians (2 years) and Oakland Athletics (1 year).
The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Club open the 2015 home schedule on Friday, June 26th, 2015 as they welcome the defending Northwest League Champions from Hillsboro (7:05pm) at historic Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium.
