2015 Inductees

Stanley Cup Champion Rob Niedermayer, former Vancouver Canucks Captain Markus Naslund and current NHL Coach Curt Fraser, are among an impressive list of 2015 Inductees welcomed into the British Columbia Hockey Hall of Fame.

Naslund, born in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, is a former Captain of the NHL Canucks. “Nazzy” played 12 seasons in Vancouver and is the franchise leader in Goals (346).

He was the third Canuck to have his jersey retired, joining Stan Smyl and Trevor Linden.

Naslund played 1117 NHL games recording  395 Goals and 869 points. Naslund was the Canucks MVP five times and Captain for a team record 8 years.

Niedermayer, born in Cassiar, BC, was raised in Cranbrook. He was drafted 5th overall by Florida in 1993.

Niedermayer played 17 seasons in the NHL after a brilliant junior career with Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL. Rob won the Stanley Cup with his brother Scott in 2007 in Anaheim. He was also a member of Canada’s Gold Medal winning team at the 2004 World Hockey Championships.

Curt Fraser, played his minor hockey at the North Shore Winter Club before embarking on a junior career with the BC Junior Kelowna Buckaroos and WHL Victoria Cougars.

The Vancouver Canucks selected Fraser 22nd overall in the 1978 draft. Fraser played 5 seasons with the NHL Canucks. 

He played 704 games in the NHL before retiring as a player and turning to coaching.

Fraser has been a professional coach for 22 years including Head Coach in Atlanta and currently Assistant Coach with the NHL Dallas Stars.

The BC Hockey Hall of Fame also welcomes 2015 Inductees Cam Kerr and the 1979 Canada Winter Games Gold Medal team.

Cam Kerr has been involved in BC Hockey for more than 40 years.

He played at UBC before focussing on a career of hockey development.

Kerr was a founding member of the BC Hockey High Performance program. Cam also coached several teams (male and female) at various levels of elite competition in BC.

He also coached in Japan.

In the Team Category, Team BC, 1979 Canada Winter Games, will be honoured as a 2015 Inductee. The team was comprised of 19 Junior B players selected from throughout BC.

Team BC won 6 straight games at the Canada Winter Games in Manitoba including a 6-0 win over Nova Scotia in the Gold Medal game. It was BC’s first-ever Gold at the games.

The 2015 BC Hockey Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will be held on Friday July 24th at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton.
