Golf
2014 Sport BC Award Winner
Being a volunteer for any sport is by itself a remarkable achievement for any individual that has a love for a specific sport for the one they love.
Such is the case with Barb Silvester who joined the Vernon Golf and Country Club dating back to 1976 and at that time the decision to join launched a volunteer career in the field of Golf, is remarkable to say the least.
At the club level Barb has ever content with just being involved at the club level but rather she volunteered numerous times to serve the women of Zone 2 in her area.
In doing so, over the past several years she has held many positions within the Zone which include acting as the Chair, then eventually being asked to move up to the BC Ladies Golf Association.
Following the eventual merger in 2004 between the Women and Men, she became a Director of British Columbia Golf and currently serves on the Zone Council.
She also volunteered countless hours organizing, conducting and running several club events in various locations..
She currently chairs the recognition committee, sits on the governance committee, chairs championships and is a qualified Level 3 certified rules official.
Regardless of the game, she is a constant volunteer for a sport that she is so passionate about, for not only her generation, but generations to come, which is the future of the game.
British Columbia Golf is thrilled to have Barb as a volunteer and to recognize her with the 2014 President’s Award.
