2014 BC Cup

Four hockey players from Delta have were selected, province wide to play in the 2014 BC Cup being played in Salmon Arm that runs from April 17 to 27.

Three are in the U-16 rosters, selected from four regional camps held over the past two weekends, and placed amongst eight team rosters.

Forward Jacob Kennedy (6’1″, 192 lbs) from the Bantam AAA South Delta Storm has been selected for Team Avalanche, while defenseman Nick Watson (6′, 170 lbs) from Bantam AAA Burnaby Bruins will join Team Penguins.

North Delta’s Akash Bains (5’11, 172 lbs) who has been playing for the Bantam AAA Okanagan Hockey Academy will join Team Stars.

Teams will play three round-robin games from Pool A and B between April 17-19, with the top team from each playing each other on April 20.

Two 20-player teams will be selected to advance from the BC Cup to attend the 2014 Male U-16 Provincial Camp which will be held July 9–13 at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Those attending to play in the BC Cup in the past have included South Delta alumni and Hawks D-man Brent Seabrook, Brandon McMillan (Anaheim Ducks) and Tampa Bay’s Brett Connolly.

On the girl’s side, 6-foot power forward and Tsawwassen hockey standout Nicole Howlett of the Richmond Pacific Steelers will join Team Furies to represent in the 2014 Female U-18 BC Cup.

Players were selected to four teams (80 players) based on their performance with their club team during the 2013-14 season.

The first two days from April 23-24 will consist of practices, team building and fitness testing and the remainder of the weekend will consist of games where all players are evaluated on their level of performance.

This the first stage in the formation of Team BC which will participate at the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.

Following the U-18 BC Cup, the top players will advance to the U-18 Provincial Camp in Lake Cowichan, BC on May 16-19.

Howlett, who will graduate from South Delta Secondary in 2015 also plays basketball, volleyball, field hockey, and soccer and she participated in the U-18 BC Cup last year as well.
