Both teams had to wait an extra day to play the championship game, and in the end Windsor claimed the Gold Medal with an 8-2 win over BC at the Senior Men National Championship.
John Picco (Woodslee, ON) earned the complete-game victory and struck out four batters while giving up two runs (one earned).
BC opened the scoring in the top of the second but Windsor was quick to respond with five runs in the bottom half of the frame. Brian Dufour (LaSalle, ON) came up with a bases-loaded single which scored two runs to highlight the inning.
After adding a run in the third, Windsor put the game out of reach in the fifth when Dustin Wiley (Hamilton, ON) hit a two-run single to make the score 8-1.
Kevin Atkinson (Langley, BC) had a single and double in the loss while Windsor’s Justin Pennell (Toronto, ON) had two hits, one RBI and scored two runs.
New Brunswick-10 Chatham-3 (Bronze Medal)
In a battle of provincial rivals, it was New Brunswick (Fredericton) who came away with the Bronze Medal after a 10-3 win over Chatham.
New Brunswick pounded-out fifteen hits, including a solo homer and three-run homer from David Barr (Fredericton, NB).
Ben Higgins (Moncton, NB) provided New Brunswick with an exceptional start on the mound as he threw a complete game and struck out eight batters along the way.
