The 2017 Canada Summer Games went off without a “hitch” and the hype for the build-up was exceptional given all the individuals that have worked so hard to make it to the games as a Competitor, Coach, Manager or Team Liaison member.

The games committee and the City of Winnipeg are hosting 16 sports with over 250 events as well as a major cultural festival, welcoming over 4,000 Athletes and Coaches and play host to over 20,000 visitors to the surrounding area and the City of Winnipeg.

The Canada Games are known as Canada’s largest multi-sport event for young athletes and are celebrating the 50th Anniversary, thereby acknowledging Canada’s milestone 150th birthday.

The 2017 Canada Summer Games Host Society acknowledge the co-hosts for the 2017 Canada Games, Treaty No. 1, Treaty No. 3 and the Manitoba Metis Federation whose traditional lands and waters these Games are being held on including the many Elders and Grandmothers that have provided the Host Society with a cultural guidance.

Winnipeg is the second city in Manitoba to host a summer edition of the Canada Games following the games hosted by Brandon in 1997.

Let’s not forget that the first games were held in Quebec City in 1967 and opened the door for young future Olympic Athletes to compete against Athletes of their own age in a manner in which to judge success that sees Athletes travel from all 13 Provinces and Territories to compete.

We can’t wait to welcome the athletes, coaches, officials and everyone who will be joining us for the 2017 Canada Summer Games on the occasion of the 50th anniversary.

I am hearing that 680 CJOB Radio supports National Volunteer Month and are looking at recruiting 6,000 volunteers to assist the games and last word that I heard was that they not only reached the goal, but exceeded it.

In light of the recent hot weather we are having in British Columbia the games have set up weather briefers that are providing twice daily weather forecasts to the Games organizers, which are distributed at 7 AM and the second forecast at 4 PM – Central time.

Congrats to everyone competing as well as the organizing committee as well as the volunteers, who are truly the “unsung heroes” for this event.

We’ll keep you posted!!
