The Vancouver Giants 3 game winning streak came to an end, losing 4-3 to the Everett Silvertips in a shootout Saturday night at Comcast Arena in Everett.
The Giants finished the season series vs the Silvertips 4-1-0-1. With the single point, coupled with a Spokane Chiefs loss, the Giants move 5 points up on Spokane for 4th place in the Western Conference.
Jackson Whistle made his 10th start of the season for the Giants and first since January 21st and unfortunately the first shot he saw was a beautiful 2-on-1 that the Silvertips converted to lead 1-0 5:20 into the game.
The Giants responded later in the period as Musil’s wrister beat Kent Simpson to even the score at 1-1.
Then on a power play, Jordan Martinook scored his 33rd goal of the year with 54.7 seconds left in the frame to give the Giants a 2-1 advantage through 20 minutes.
Martinook, trying to keep pace with Gallagher, added to his goal total in the second period, scoring his 2nd of the night and 34th of the year to give the Giants a 3-1 lead.
The Silvertips responded with a pair of goals off the stick of Jordyn Boyd to tie the game at 3-3 after two periods of play.
Both teams had chances in the third, but neither goaltender would be beat sending the game to extra time.
In overtime the Giants outshot the Silvertips 6-0, but were unable to find the back of the net. For the 9th time this season, the Giants went to a shootout.
Brendan Gallagher put the Giants up 1-0, but Kohl Bauml, who was the Silvertips 3rd shooter, beat Whistle to send it to extra shooters.
Matt Bellerive was stopped and Ryan Chynoweth scored to give the ‘Tips a 4-3 victory.
Final shots were 42-19 in favour of the Giants.
