This is a repost and a note that any Executive Body in sport should be aware of who they trust.
Thankfully from all I know, it seldom happens, but does happen when you least expect it. So please be aware of this situation.
Recently I received a letter from a person I know, that was extremely concerned about possible theft in the minor hockey association is the area.
I waited then found the following letter on the North Delta Minor Hockey Association web site posted by President Mr. George Windsor.
If this proves to be true, charge them and don’t give him/her a slap on the wrist. It’s STEALING, and worst yet, it’s from our youth!!
Great read for those who think it won’t happen!!
Thanks to George for posting this notice.
Members of the Executive Board of the NDMHA have investigated and subsequently confirmed that a sum of money was embezzled by a member of the Executive Board over the past 18 months.
That member has been stripped of his title and position on a pro tem basis so that no further losses to the NDMHA are anticipated.
At this time, it appears that the Executive Board member acted alone, although fraudulently utilizing the authority of another Board member who was unaware of any the wrongful acts.
The Board will be having a forensic audit commissioned to ascertain the exact amount of the loss caused by this fraud/embezzlement.
The Board has retained a lawyer to pursue recovery of the totality of the missing funds and is pursuing civil relief (including injunctive orders) on an urgent basis against the Executive member in question.
In that way, we hope to minimize any loss(es) suffered by the NDMHA in the final outcome.
The Executive Board has also reported this matter to the Delta Police Department who are presently conducting an investigation into the matter.
Although there is a sizeable amount of money to be recovered, the NDMHA has sufficient resources remaining to provide all of the services required to the Members of the NDMHA.
Although we are all disappointed and concerned about the losses and the deception of an Executive Board member, we have been advised to allow the police and our lawyer to act without interference from the members of the NDMHA.
The Executive Board has also been cautioned to refrain from any comments on the matter while it is in litigation.
The Executive will issue statements to the members as soon as they have been reviewed and approved by our lawyer.
Sincerely,
George Windsor
(President)
North Delta Minor Hockey Association
