When one gets involved in sport, it’s like a roll of the dice. You actually never know where the sport or your career will take you.
The winner in the case of getting great volunteer’s is the community of Trial.
The following have rolled a winning combination and dedication, hard work and passion has paid off. Sport BC will honor ten (10) dedicated sport leaders from the City of Trail on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 with the Community Sport Hero Awards presented by Teck.
The public award ceremony is hosted at the Best Western Columbia River in Trail and celebrates the contributions of long-time community sport volunteers.
Acting Mayor Gordon DeRosa will present the chosen winners with their special award as well as a gift from the Community Sport Heroes Awards’.
The official apparel provider is FIRSTAR Sports Inc.
“The Community Sport Hero Awards are a celebration of volunteers who have contributed eight or more years to sport,” said Carey Summerfelt,
Event Manager of Sport BC.
“Sport is crucial to the development of strong, healthy communities, and community volunteers, like the ten (10) to be honored, are essential to that success of all communities.”
The following individuals are the outstanding volunteers who were selected by their peers to receive the 2012 Community Sport Hero Awards in Trail:
Ken Koshey, Hockey
- Clifford Tyson, Curling
- Fred Bushell, Skiing
- Kathryn Johnston, Figure Skating
- Barry Zanier, Premier’s Sport Awards
- Nicole Lord, Special Olympics
- Tom Gawryletz, Hockey
- Ryan Kuhn, Biking
- Ray Nelson, Rugby
- Keith Smyth, BC Games
The event is open to the public and all are invited to help celebrate these individuals at the ceremony. The event begins at 6:00pm and Trail is the first stop this year for the Community Sport Hero Awards in 2012.
