Whitecaps Set 4 Opening

It’s been a long time coming, but Saturday March 19th will go down in history for the City of Vancouver.

Given the pressure some of which involve the Water-Front Stadium (or lack of) it never stopped Bobby Lenarduzzi from full-filling his left-long dream.

Bob goes from a youngster growing up in Vancouver playing for fun, to a player and now Club President.

He is one of the honest and most sincere individuals you will ever meet. His passion to the game alone show’s why they are in the MLS.

The pre-amble to the home opener against Toronto FC was an exhibition match against Colorado. This was a “friendly” so they could work out any “bugs” they might encounter at the home opener.

Baring the rain (which we cannot control) it went off rather smooth and those in attendance were pleased with the day’s event’s and how they unfolded.

Whitecaps Overhead ViewNaturally the City wants to be pro-active so in light of this majestic day the Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Translink have announced additional public transport to Empire Field for Whitecaps FC match days.

With no fare zones on the weekends, the one-way price will only be $2.50 for an adult or $1.75 for a child, high school student with Go Card, senior or Handy Pass user.

This is good news’s for any Whitecap supporter and given the growth and recent popularity of the sport with the kid’s today’s this can only be a win-win for everyone.

The one group that are having questions or concerns are those called the “South-Siders” who normally stood at the south end at Swanguard Stadium for the past few years.

They are now reserved to one section in the crowd, in addition to being about 30 feet from any players or close-up action. Some are not pleased, but for others this is a delight.

No blue and white smoke bombs followed by a large cloud to disrupt the game.

Another fan favorite is the Whitecap Scarf that has become extremely popular over the past few years.

A Kia car will be making it’s rounds around the City to give some out to the kids in the area, which is good for several reasons.

We (Laird, Justin and myself) had a chance to make it to the pre-season “friendly” and we were as excited as those attending.

I was told that some of those attending the game were from various minor soccer sports teams in the area.

This is going to be an electric year for MLS in Vancouver and it can only get better.

The starting 11 were on the field and they took the time to pose for Laird and Justin for an up-close look at what we should expect to see.

The trip to Seattle is going to be fun, not to mention the rivalry it will build between the Sounders and the Whitecaps.
Take all the games in – they will be great
