Whitecaps Hammered 6-0

Changes were on the mind of Head Coach Carl Robinson that saw him insert four into the match-up against Sporting Kansas City that saw the Whitecaps drop a 6-0 spirited match by a hammering from the hometown crowd.

Robinson used a three on the back end set with Aly Ghazal, Brek Shea, Yordy Reyna and Anthony Blondel replace Russell Teibert, Erik Hurtado, Cristian Techera and Jake Newwinski.

The Vancouver Whitecaps and history were not on the same page when they faced Sporting Kansas City in MLS action that saw them drop their third straight match at  Mercy Child Park.

The road loss sets a franchise record goals against in a single game that saw them allow 6 goal, as they manage to limp back to Vancouver.

Kansas City managed to score three goals in the opening 30 minutes against Cap’s Keeper Stefan Marinovic with Johnny Russell collecting a pair in the 10th and 16th minute followed by Jimmy Medranda that completed the first half scoring by only the 30th minute.

Sporting KC could easily have doubled the score against a depleted injury riddled Whitecaps squad by the end of the first half as Vancouver was down to 9 players.

By the 40th minute as Efrain Juarez and Yordy Reyna received game ejections from referee Kevin Scott that saw both clubs head to the locker rooms at the half.

It is interesting to note that in the 36 minute Vancouver’s Kendall Waston received a caution, while Sporting KC’s Yordy Reyna also received a caution in the 40th minute.

Kansas City continued the onslaught in the second half scoring twice by the 54th minute that saw Johnny Russell completed his hat trick in the 48th minute and Christian Lobato a short six minutes later making it a 5-0 in a match that saw Sporting KC never look back on.

They completed the bombardment of the Whitecaps that saw Yohan Croizet hammer one in at the 77th minute mark past a bewildered, stunned and shocked  Stefan Marinovic.

As we know far too well in sports, especially  a team sport you can’t blame your “tender” cause the end result was that Vancouver simply failed to show up.

Sporting Kansas City out shot the Caps 34-5 with an accuracy rate of 14-1 with shots on target on this historic night in which Vancouver was clearly on the wrong side of the ball.

Other stats in the history making match saw Kansas City control 80% of the possession to Vancouver’s 20% and corners favored KC as well by a 8-1 ratio as Sporting FC goalkeeper had a an easy night having to make only one save.

The Whitecaps return home April 27th as they face Real Salt Lake at BC Place with kick-off set for 7:30 pm at BC Place.
