Whitecaps Focused On Winning

The Vancouver Whitecaps dropped back to back games for the first in close to a year ventured to

Sporting Kansas City in hopes of getting back on the winning track only to see them venture home with a time for second in the western conference head to take on the first place Sporting KC team on the road.

Sporting Kansas City is undefeated in 6 games 4-1-1 coming off a 2-2 draw against the Seattle

Sounders over the week and with the Caps having dropped back to back games for the first time in 362 days dating back to last year see’s their record fall to 3-3-1 in 2018.

Vancouver are missing some key components in the attack as Kei Kamara is still out with a

lower body injury and is expected to miss two extended weeks before returning to the line up.

In addition midfielder Yordy Renya still recovering from an injury and currently not 100% which effects any possible scoring chances the club has hopes of reaching.

The all time record between the clubs is 2-2-1 in five games dates back to 2016 that saw Sporting KC take 7 of a possible 9 points winning 2-1 and 2-0 in match-ups.

The clubs battled to a 1-1 draw in 2017 that saw Vancouver turn the tables on Sporting KC winning both games by scores of 2-0 and 1-0 garnering all six points from their opponents.

Sporting Kansas City’s current record is 4-1-2 this season (2018) putting the ball in the net 14 times while allowing 11 goals against which is good for 14 points.

This record has them sitting atop the Western Conference while Vancouver sits tied for second at 3-3-1 scoring 8 allowing 11 against with 10 points, tied with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Sporting Kansas City is led in goal scoring by Felipe Gutierrez who has managed (to date) five goals and is closely followed by Graham Zusi and IIies Sanchez each with two.  

Singles go to Daniel Salloi,Jimmy Medranda, and Diego Rubino.

Vancouver is led in scoring by striker and snipper Kei Kamara who is currently tied with Brek

Shea with three on the season, closely followed by Erik Hurtado and Alphonso Davies with one each.

The next contest for the Whitecaps is Friday April 27th at the friendly confines of BC Place Stadium with the kickoff set for 7:30 pm.
