If you’re like some you have the luxury of planning holidays around a trip that sometimes involves either playing or getting tickets for sporting events.

Such was the case with Delta resident’s Anne and Greg who ventured to England while having a soccer holiday or “friendly” match while in Britain.

Living the Dream Day one:

Arriving at the station set for the usual photos to send out, means waiting for the local WiFi to “boot in”, but once that’s up – we’re ready to go!!

They all arrived off the train at 3 but were told that the Cathedral was closed at 5:30, so being a true sport we simply dropped suitcases and had a brisk walk to the town center.

We finished the day by meeting up with Greg’s soccer team and planning the games for Monday, which would see us encounter an early start in the AM for the 5-hour coach trip to Grimsby. We had to leave so early since the bus was needed to be in for a service in a few day’s time. Kinda annoying but these things need to be done. Hopefully, they’re getting the service done at a company similar to this Houston Truck Service firm.

Day 2 of “Living the dream.”

The purpose of this trip is for Greg and his team to play ??football??throughout England. First stop was Grimsby where we arrived in time to watch Grimsby win 1-0 against second division Crewe in a stadium that seats 9,000 and is over 125 years old. A marketing agency was carryong out a pointsbet promotion and I thought to myself why not take some tickets to see what I could win. And fair enough, the team I wagered on won.

We (all) were given commemorative t-shirts in the clubhouse after, but clearly there was no time for sightseeing as a dinner and a social was planned with the *slightly older* Grimsby players that our *boys* will play against Monday.

Today was Greg’s day to explore his Mother’s hometown as well as spend some time with his Cousins.

Special “Thanks” to Joan, for the lovely tour around Wombwell and taking us to Hillcrest as well as a thank you to Hillary and John, for the fabulous Sunday lunch!

We were greeted by Gerard and John and had fun chatting about family, trips taken and to take, and the wonders of technology that helps us stay connected with each other across the miles.

Next up is a visit to Ely, Cambridgeshire which is home of another cathedral that saw us climb the 286 steps to the top of the tower.

Our guide, Jennie provided a wealth of English history every step of the way, including the rather disconcerting description of how they pulled the blocks together with steel girders.

A quick walkabout the town followed by a visit to Oliver Cromwell’s House, then down winding streets to the River.

We ducked into a little fantasy of a tea shop just as the heavens opened again, but came out to sunshine and a quick look at the river before racing back up hill to the bus and straight to the steakhouse for a team dinner.

Tomorrow is another game day in Boston.

Stay tuned – this trips not over yet!!!
