The fixture is part of the 125th anniversary celebrations for the British Columbia Rugby Union, founded in 1889 in New Westminster.

The BC roster will be headlined by Canadian internationals as they take on national team representatives from outside of BC.

Rugby Canada staff will also be using the match as a final selection tool ahead of Canada’s Pacific Nations Cup clash against Japan on June 7 in Burnaby.

“This year the British Columbia Rugby Union celebrates its 125th Anniversary, a monumental milestone. We are excited to celebrate with our members, recognize our distinguished history and in the process inspire the next generation of players,” said BC Rugby CEO Jim Dixon. “There are a number of feature events planned to celebrate our birthday.

These will include amongst other things, a celebratory game between the BC Bears and Canada which will see BC’s most distinguished players pull on the provincial jersey and compete against their national team rivals.”

The fixture will be the first of the 2014 calendar for the BC Bears senior men’s provincial program, runner-ups of the 2013 Canadian Rugby Championship.

The Canada Selects roster will be dotted with capped and former national team representatives including players from current CRC champions and historical BC rivals Ontario Blues.

“I’m sure it will prove to be quite a spectacle and will give rugby fans the chance to see the best players in Canada go head to head,” Dixon added. “We look forward to seeing everyone on May 31st at Klahanie Park, West Vancouver.”

Tickets start at $20.00 for adults (plus taxes and service fees) and $10.00 for youths aged 12 and under.

125th Anniversary Gala Dinner
Tickets for the BC Rugby 125th Anniversary Gala dinner are also now on sale. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 13 at the Westin Bayshore, Vancouver.

Individual tickets start at $150 while tables of 10 can be purchased starting at $1,350.
