It’s great to keep up with any and all sports and thanks go out to BC Rugby for the info on this past weekend’s Championship.

BC Rugby held its annual Club Finals in Abbotsford at Exhibition Park this past weekend and the outpouring was exceptional with thousands on hand to catch the top teams in 9 different divisions compete for their divisional championships.

The UBC Thunderbirds captured the Men’s Premier League Championship with their third consecutive year championship, while Westshore RFC claimed victory in the Women’s Premier League division.

The 2017 Club Finals Champions and Runners-Up are as follows:

Men Premier League – UBC 26 d. Burnaby Lake RC 17
Men’s Premier Reserve – Burnaby Lake RC 32 d. UVic Norsemen 24

The Men’s Premier League final saw UBC led in the first half with fullback Andrew Coe, reaching a score of 26-0 before allowing Burnaby Lake to make its first try but the second half, Burnaby Lake came back strong, hammering away at UBC, successfully completing 3 tries.

However, Reekie missed the conversion giving UBC the lead and with little time left their fate was sealed.

For their third consecutive year, UBC Thunderbirds walked away with a final score of 26-17.

In the Women’s Premier League Westshore RFC finished a perfect season with a solid win over Seattle Saracens.

National players Barbara Mervin and Elissa Alarie and the team played exceptional and in the first half Westshore completed six tries and three conversions while Seattle was only able to slip away with one try.

The second half, Westshore continued the pace completing five more tries and three conversions while Seattle kept fighting to regain the scoreboard.

The end result saw Westshore dominate walking away with a final score of 67-17 managing to pull off a win in the Women’s Premier League Championship.
