Located in the heart of Vancouver the BC Sports Hall of Fame gets visitors from around the World and welcomes them to “browse” through the various areas of the Hall in hopes of fulfilling their dreams.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame and Museum honours, recognizes and preserves BC’s sport heritage of extraordinary individuals in sport through a collection of stories in such a manner so as to inspire all British Columbians to pursue their dreams.

Sportswave covered the event last year and spoke to many great individuals who helped put the Province on the map in more ways than one.

The class of 2017 is as exciting as the past class and one such individual in the class is  Rugby’s Mark Wyatt, who has 29 International caps for Canada between 1982 and 1991.

He started his rugby career playing at Victoria High School and later went on played for James Bay Athletic Association, University of Victoria.

It was there that he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Coaching Studies), Westshore Rugby Football Club and Vancouver Island Crimson Tide.

During his Rugby career, he represented Canada at the 1987 and 1991 Rugby World Cups and less than a decade ago was inducted into the BC Rugby Hall of Fame.

He was known for his kicking skills where he set a Canadian record in 1987 against Ireland when he scored 21 points including 6-for-6 penalty kicks.

In 1991 at the Rugby World Cup playing against Scotland, he set a world record with 8 penalty kick goals and as Team Captain, he led Canada to its best ever World Cup finish, reaching the quarter-finals only falling to the New Zealand All-Blacks.

After leaving the National Team at age 30, Wyatt acted as a rugby coach at Shawnigan Lake School. He now serves as the President of the Westshore Rugby Football Club as well as a board director of the Canadian Rugby Foundation.

He left the team at the young age of 30 where he went on to act as a rugby coach at Shawnigan Lake School an now serves as the President of the Westshore Rugby Football Club as well as a board director of the Canadian Rugby Foundation.

Congratulations to the entire class where the 51st Induction Class will be formally inducted to the BC Sports Hall of Fame Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the annual Banquet of Champions at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.
