Training At Home

Upon returning home from training in Brazil end of January I had to become accustomed to training in the cold again, Vancouver it was for the next two weeks.

I was lucky to be home while the weather was relatively decent and I managed to get on the water for some really solid training sessions in about 4-6 degrees, and that was in the sun, but when the sun went away, it was so much colder…yikes!!!

I was joined by several other RSX sailors from RVYC which made training so much more fun and bearable. I also managed to sail and cross-country ski on the same day, a first for me this year…how cool is that!!!

I definitely live in a great place. I also had an intensive fitness program while at home; lots of fun workouts… one of those was spent on a bike getting tested at the Lab at the Canadian Sport Centre!

My training time at home has helped acclimatized me for my training in Cadiz, Spain. I arrived here last night after a long trip: Vancouver – Toronto – Montreal – Brussels – Malaga, then a 3hr drive to Cadiz.

I slept 12 hours straight last night which was very needed and thus I was good to go for today’s training sessions.

Luckily, I missed the worst of the cold spell that hit Europe recently but stepping into the water for my first training session here made me yelp.

Oh my goodness…my feet went numb instantly. I’m so happy that I came prepared and that I brought all my warm stuff, tomorrow…the booties are coming out!I’m here for two weeks.

My first week is just training, and I’ll be competing in the “VII ANDALUSIAN OLYMPIC WEEK”, XII Carnival Trophy, during the second week.

Cadiz is the venue of our World Championships next month (March 20-28) so I’m here trying to get a grasp on the conditions and train/race so I feel comfortable when I come back mid March just before the Worlds
