It was great having the AHL Abbotsford Heat play at the ASEC for a few seasons as it was a time where everyone could watch future start of tomorrow play.

Not only was it fun to cover for us, it was extremely cost effective for the Families to attend games on various nights.

Whether it was watching future Flame players or future Canucks or a team of your choice, it was fast, fun and very entertaining to take in.

With the NHL trade-line come and gone everyone in the area was wondering what the Canucks would do or if any movement would be even considered.

Trades were made, but nothing major to announce with one exception and that being they have acquired forward Sven Baertschi from the Calgary Flames.

They managed to get him and did not “sell the farm” in order to upgrade the organization.

Asking price was given at Vancouver’s second round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, so a very effective price.

Baertschi (22) has played 15 games with the Calgary Flames this season managing only recording four assists (0-4-4) and six penalty minutes.

He has also appeared in 36 games with the Adirondack Flames, collecting 25 points (8-17-25) and six penalty minutes.

Prior to that he was playing with the Abbotsford Heat 2012-13 and 2013-14, with stints of coming to and from Abby at various times of the season.

Upon his arrival from Switzerland he played in the WHL for the Portland Winterhawks for two seasons playing 113 games collecting 67 goals and 112 assists and 110 PIM’s.

So he can play a physical style as well as be a goal scorer for the team, depending on what line he ends up on.

The Bern, Switzerland native has appeared in 66 career NHL games with the Calgary Flames collecting 28 points (8-20-28) and 22 penalty minutes.

The 5’11”, 190-pound forward was originally by selected by Calgary 13th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
