Soccer is on the growth in Canada mainly due the success of the MLS teams in three distinct major cities in Canada with all getting involved with the minor teams in the area’s.

The Canadian National Women’s team has had much success mostly due to what Christine Sinclair has brought to the game and her local community of Burnaby on Canada’s west coast.

Now we are hearing that the Women’s National Soccer team are holding a camp in Texas (September 20th to October 1st) in front of the upcoming 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship.

Those attending the camp will train in Frisco before the final group of 20 players will be selected to travel to Edinburg for the group stage.

Head Coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller

Head Coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller mentioned “We are excited to bring this group back together and really set our sights on the upcoming qualification campaign.”

He continued “We’ve been together a few times this year and we’ve been pleased with how the group is evolving. Having this time prior to an important tournament like the Concacaf Women’s Championship is critical.  We are expecting some pretty hot temperatures in Texas for the tournament and that is something we haven’t experienced much of this year, so getting to experience the conditions and train in the heat ahead of the tournament is something we will be using to ensure we are ready to face our Concacaf opponents.”

Canada plays the group stage matches at H-E-B Park in Edinburg, Texas, with the opening match against Jamaica (October 5th)

This will be followed by a match between Canada and Cuba (October 8th) followed by a match that has Canada challenge Costa Rica (October 11th) and following the group stage, all matches will be played In  in Frisco Texas at Toyota Stadium.

The top three teams in the tournament will qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™, with an additional opportunity for the fourth-place team to qualify through a playoff against Argentina of CONMEBOL.

Head Coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller mentioned “Many of the players coming into this camp will be on the final roster for the tournament, so we are taking this opportunity to fine-tune some of our strategies and future work on the players connections, both on and off their field.”

The final Canada Soccer Women’s National Team roster for the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship will be released prior to the team’s travel to Edinburg.
