Long Term Goal

Interesting enough as we get set to watch the 103rd CFL Grey Cup game from Winnipeg the NFL is talking about holding a game in Wembley Stadium October 30, 2016

If it takes place and there is no reason why it shouldn’t the Washington Redskins might just become the first team to play two NFL games in the same season, within consecutive weeks.

The opposition will be the Cincinnati Bengals as well as the St. Louis Rams which will be played earlier at Twickenham Stadium.

Of course this depends on how Washington finishes this season in the NFC East.

The NFL has been playing regular-season games in London dating back to 2007 having every one played at Wembley, which is the home for England’s national soccer team.

But as we all know changes do happen and next year will see a new deal whereas to hold games at Twickenham, the home of England’s National Rugby team.

redskinsThis will be the first time the Redskins travel to London since 1992, when they played the 49ers.

Naturally it isn’t without some form of reaction, this time from Ray Halbritter, Oneida Indian Nation representative and leader of the “Change the Mascot” campaign.

I am hearing from the operator of the Edwards Jones Dome in St. Louis that the team’s lease (apparently) prohibits the Rams from playing a game in London.england football

Now for the curve-ball – there is uncertainty the team (Rams) will still be in St. Louis as the owners are exploring possible moves to LA.

Earlier this month the NFL released a statement saying they would hold one game per season at Twickenham Stadium, which most recently hosted the Rugby World Cup final.

The NFL has (apparently) agreed to play at least two games per season at Wembley till 2020 with a new deal to play (at least) two games at Tottenham’s new soccer stadium beginning in 2018.

All this means that there will be a minimum of five regular-season NFL games in London in 2018.

Two will be at Wembley, two at Tottenham and one at Twickenham.

Are they also looking to play in other areas of the “Globe”?
