Hosting any event and/or tournament and making it a success for the players requires any Association to have a solid base of volunteers and behind the scene personal to send everyone home with a sense of gratification knowing they did their best to make it a success.

Such was exactly what the Port Coquitlam Minor Lacrosse Association did working under the guidance of first VP Stacey Hemmerling that saw 5 different divisions enjoy an exceptional weekend of lacrosse played in the Port Coquitlam Rec Centre taking part over four days running from July 6-9.

All games were entertaining with exciting lacrosse played from day one to day four with the final Championship games played Sunday following all preliminary match-up round action in the girls division.

The Bantam “A” Division featured teams from Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Ridge Meadows and New Westminster that saw several come down the last minute to decide the outcome.

The Bantam “B” division saw teams from Nanaimo, Victoria, Mission, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam all challenge for the Championship trophy.

The Pee Wee division saw an Island team from Cowichan Valley take part adding a sense of added excitement to the event in which Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Peninsula and Ridge Meadows teams entertained the fans.

The two other competing divisions competing were Minor and the Junior that saw a record number of 28 teams competing.

The Gold medal championship final in the Pee Wee division was played between Port Coquitlam as they played host to lower mainland rivals Coquitlam that saw the home team come up short falling 6-3 to Coquitlam.

Next up was Bantam Division Gold medal game that saw Nanaimo took on Langley in a match that saw Nanaimo double up by a score of 6-3 winning the Gold medal.

The Bronze medal game saw Victoria defeat lower mainland rival Mission by a narrow 3-1 count that saw them capture third place.

The Junior final division saw Coquitlam face rival Ridge Meadows with the end result seeing Coquitlam take home Gold with a 5-1 win.

The Bronze medal match saw two lower mainland teams compete as Port Coquitlam and New Westminster were competing that saw the junior Bellies come away with a 5-1 win.

The Minor Division championship saw an undefeated Port Coquitlam sent visiting Semiahmoo (White Rock) home with a 9-1 loss capturing the Gold medal in what was a stupendous season for the young players.

Burnaby played host to New Westminster in the Bronze medal match-up and it was the minor “Bellies” that handed Burnaby by a loss of 7-3 and grabbing a third place finish.

The final game in the Bantam A division for the Gold medal had Ridge Meadows play Coquitlam in a game that saw Ridge Meadows shock the Adanacs pulling out to a 2-0.

It never took long until the Adanacs roared back lead with four straight goals pulling out a 4-2 Gold medal.

The Bronze medal match-up saw between New Westminster take on Port Coquitlam, but in this game was the squad from New West that pulled off a 5-2 victory finishing third in their division.
