It took a long time, but the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame is relocating to a new home and while still in New Westminster it will be located at the Anvil Centre and officially opening on September 14th.

In the early 90ties Rogers TV used to do the annual awards and were broadcast live throughout the lower mainland and while I was the host, I loved what Archie brought to the table.

In the past it was located behind the curling club and near the pool and no one could ever find it due to the poor location it was situated at, basically away from any main traffic stream area.

history of lacrosseIt is designed to be an iconic structure to New Westminster’s downtown core and the state-of-the-art Anvil Centre will house conference facilities, a proscenium theatre, meeting rooms, art studios and music practice rooms, a civic Art Gallery, New Westminster’s Museum and Archives and, of course, the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

“We’re really excited for lacrosse fans to be in the new Anvil Centre,” said Tony Glavin, Chairman of the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. “It’s a new lease on life for us and it just happens to coincide with our 50th anniversary.

We believe that our new central location and equipment like brand new faceoff heads, as well as greater ability to properly present the greatest players, championship teams, and the most exciting moments in Canadian lacrosse will make us a ‘must see’ destination for anyone that loves the game.”

The Hall of Fame hosts its annual induction ceremonies and banquet at the Anvil Centre on Saturday, November 8, 2014, marking the first time the induction ceremonies and banquet have been held under one roof.

Eight individuals and one team will be inducted on this special evening and all are true recipients of this recognition.

The inductees in the players category are Gary Gait, Paul Gait, Andy Ogilvie and Gil Nieuwendyk; in the builders category are Harry Nightingale and David General

The veterans category will see Reo Jerome and Ron Roy get inducted, while the team category is the 1983-1993 BC Women’s Selects Field Lacrosse Team.

Congratulation to everyone and especially the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
