The Eagles enter the game coming off an impressive S/O victory over Victoria after two hard fought losses in both Cowichan and Nanaimo for the weekend road trip.

Some of the newer players have never been to the Island alone before, let alone on a BC Ferry, which was a fun ride for some.

The Rivermen jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals 1:22 in the opening period in a goaltenders duel facing shot after shot.

The Eagles managed to get one on the board as Mack Gray kept the puck on side at the left side making an impressive reach sending one off the back boards that caught Fleming pondering what he was up against.

With the Eagles pressing while on the PP, Gray sent one deep in the zone to Clifton who cut behind the net catching Fleming going to the left post.

Making an impressive sudden stop, Fleming was caught out of position that saw Clifton send one out front on the left side to Katzalay who pulled the Eagles within one at the 14:43 mark.

Langley manage to get their third at the 17:07 that saw the first end as Fleming faced 11 shots while Dumba faced 12 through 20 minutes.

The game continued to be a fast paced wide open game with the only goal coming off the stick of Langley’s Versluis with the Eagles on the PK with Barnes serving a double minor.

The second ended with the Rivermen leading by a 4-1 margin that saw Fleming face 14 shots while Dumba faced 12, many of which were labeled for the corner.

Surrey pounded several shots at Fleming grabbing their second of the game on the PP as Schiavon slide one over to Westgard who returned it on the cross pass back to Schiavon.

His shot took a strange bounce after it was tipped on the left side of the net bouncing to Gurney who got his 5th of the season, low to the left side of Fleming with the play shifting for the Eagles.

Many of the schools were still in attendance, but a few had left for early dismissal at their respective schools missing out on an impressive finish.

Pressure was on the Rivermen that saw them unable to clear the puck allowing McKim to send one over to Gray on the left side

Gray hammered one off the back boards that bounced back to McKim who slid a tape to tape pass to Schiavon in the middle of the ice who sent a “bullet” past Fleming collecting his first of the season at 13:36 making for an impressive finish.

Both teams had several chances that saw Langley call the first T/O with just over a minute remaining, them following another stoppage the Eagles utilized their T/O setting up a remarkable finish to an entertaining “School Day” game.

Press as they might with several chances the Eagles were simply unable to manage the tying goal coming up a “tad” short giving the Rivermen the victory.

Both teams face-off in less than 48 hours at the George Preston Arena with the Eagles looking at erasing this loss.
