Heat Sink Admirals

The Abby Heat are coming off a remarkable series against the Admirals that saw them dominate them by winning all three games.

In watching the Heat over the course of the year, one must be impressed with the impressive style of play they have elevated the game too.

Heat Coach Troy Ward has somehow managed to reach out to the players and have them elevate the play in all zones.

The play in the attacking zone is one that stymies the opposition and having them confused at the play; or so it looks.

The back-end has both tenders Danny Taylor and Leland Irving playing superb literally stoning the opposition and keeping them from any chance of a rebound.

One must not forget that “tender” Irving has been like a jack rabbit between Abbotsford and play with the parent club the Calgary Flames.

So travel is something they have to get used to, but according to Head Coach Troy Ward “It sure messes up the line-up, but we adjust”.

The parent club the Flames are in their 31st NHL season and the 32nd in Calgary.

They arrived in 1980 and the success both on and off the ice has won over the fans in and around the area.

This is the second time in the club’s three year history they have advanced in post-season play and this season advancing as the high seed for the first time in club history.

In 09-10 they played 13 games in the post-season and considering it was the first year, they shocked the Americans in the first round that went the distance.

This year they finished with 92 points and enter the Calder Cup as a forth seed.

They earned 24 road wins which was the top in the Western Conference.

They have a -17 goal differential on home ice and a plus 16 on the road.
The PP has operated at a 5.2% while the PK is 10.2% better and ranked first in the AHL on the road.

The win over the Admirals gives them some time to rest before hitting the road to face the Marlies for the first two of a best of seven series.

They had a respectable outing throughout the season against the Marlies, but dropped the last two of the season on home ice. So revenge is in the making.

Games three and four are at the ASEC on May 5th and 8th with game 5 being played May 9th.
All games are a 7 pm start.

Sportswave will be using twitter to follow them both on the road and at home, so have a visit and keep up to date on the Abbotsford Heat.

We are looking forward to the next round against the Toronto Marlies farm club for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
