Gallagher Makes Team Canada

Brendan Gallagher calls Delta home and is very proud to let everyone know it’s his home.

In addition to playing minor hockey in South Delta he is also a graduate of the SDSS Hockey Academy.

His first try to make Team Canada wasn’t exactly what he wanted, the second camp was even better.

He has been named to Team Canada for the 2012 World Junior Championships. “He worked really hard to get where he is,” said Scott Bonner, General Manager of the Vancouver Giants, the junior hockey team Gallagher plays for.

The Vancouver Giants and the SDSS Hockey Academy have very close ties, working in conjunction with one another.

Students in the hockey academy skate and train with Giants head Coach Don Hay, assistant coach Frank Musil, goaltending coach Paul Fricker, as well as strength and conditioning Coach Ian Gallagher, who is one proud Dad!

Other professionals involved with the academy are Vancouver Canadians head coach Leland Mack and Steffany Hanlen, along with her staff, from Quantum Speed.

The program has proven to be greatly successful with students reaching high academic and hockey achievement. Several graduates from the academy now play in the NHL.

Colten Teubert plays for the Edmonton Oilers and Brandon McMillan plays for the Anaheim Ducks. Earlier this year, Gallagher signed with the Montreal Canadiens. Gallagher joined the Academy in grade 8 and has certainly earned his right to be on the squad.

Gallagher will be coached at the World Junior level by SDSS Hockey Academy and Vancouver Giants coach Don Hay. “Don is probably the best coach in junior hockey. I think team Canada was really smart in bringing him in to coach the team.

He’s won a gold medal before and three memorial cups,” said Bonner, adding that Hay can definitely lead the team to gold this year.
Brendan will be wearing # 12 for the games.

The 2012 World Junior Championships run from December 26, 2011 to January 5, 2012.
