Opening night for the Abbotsford Heat sees the return of three BC players squaring off to face-off in a new season of exciting AHL hockey action.

All games for the Heat are played at the Abbotsford Sports & Entertainment Center.

Kyle Beach, Brett MacLean and Brandon Segal all developed in BC’s minor hockey system, and will be returning close to home this weekend for their lone visit to the province.

Kyle Beach (21) calls Kelowna home in the off-season and spent three seasons with the Everett Silvertips before finishing his WHL career in Lethbridge with the Hurricanes.

Beach was the Chicago Blackhawks first round pick in 2008 selected 11th overall.

Segal spent five productive seasons with the Calgary Hitmen of the WHL, and calls Richmond, BC home.

Segal grew up playing his minor hockey in North Delta. Last season Segal split the campaign between the Dallas Stars and their AHL affiliate in Austin, TX.
After two seasons in Switzerland, Brett McLean has returned to the AHL where this weekend he’ll be close to both his junior home and his birthplace.

McLean moved with the WHL’s Rockets from Tacoma to Kelowna in 1995, McLean thrived in Kelowna, posting four dynamic seasons that saw him record well over a point per game played.

McLean is a Vancouver Island product, having grown up in Comox.

Don’t miss the opportunity to check in with some our provinces finest hockey exports this weekend as the Rockford IceHogs play the Abbotsford Heat Friday night at 7PM and Sunday at 1PM for a matinee affair.

Friday night is the Heat’s home-opener, which will see a Heat hat gate-giveaway to the first 5,000 fans through the doors. All Friday night games throughout the season are Loonie, Toonie, Dog ‘n Brew nights which allow fans the opportunity to enjoy $1 hotdogs and $2 beer over thirteen Fridays throughout the 2011-12 season.
