With the CFL in the off-season we are hearing that the GM’s might have more than bargained for when they return to the office in the next short while.

It seems that there is an outside possibility of over 200 players that are slated to become free agents as the clock strikes noon in Toronto on Valentines Day – February 14th.

GM’s still have time to re-sign the players but have to re-think about some of the signings as the salary cap is set to increase $50,000 to $5.15 million in 2017 and if you say it fast it’s not much.

We are hearing that Ottawa leads with 30, which includes 1000-yard receivers Greg Ellingson, Earnest Jackson and Chris Williams, but let’s remember that it was Jackson who grabbed the Redblacks the 39-33 win over Calgary for the Grey Cup Championship.

Toronto has 24 possible free-agents which includes four Canadians as well as Brandon Whitaker who had a 1,000 yard season.

Montreal GM Kavis Reed who was promoted last month has 25 (pending) free agents, while Hamilton has to hire a new Defensive coordinator and also has (maybe) 27 free agents.

Calgary GM/president John Hufnagel has been busy, signing seven players to extensions, while Winnipeg is tied with Saskatchewan and the Lions have only a possibility of 20 free agents to re-sign.

Saskatchewan’s most impressive signing should be QB Darian Durant and at the young age of 34 has played his entire young 10-year career in Regina and led them to a Grey Cup Championship in 2013.

Lions GM and Head Coach Wally Buono has signed or extended four players, which include the more impressive being Solomon Elimimian.

It’ll be an interesting time for the CFL GM’s!
