The Toronto Blue Jays 25th prospect on MLB’s rankings, Dasan Brown, is definitely a special player. He has it all, solid hitter with some power, excellent fielder and has incredible speed on the basepaths and in the field.
Every single factor of his game is impacted by his foot speed. He can track down uncatchable balls in center field and is a stolen base machine with his 80-grade run tool.
In 2019, the Canadian born baller was drafted by Toronto straight out of high school, Abbey Park noting that Oakville Ontario’s slugger was the 88th pick (3rd rounder), he was the first Canadian taken in the draft that year.
He then went to play rookie ball in the GCL, where he slashed .222/.444/.356 in 14 games. After the 2020 lockdown he went to play in Dunedin (A) in 2021 and part of 2022, he played well at the low A level and got promoted to high A Vancouver in 2022.
Brown arrived in Vancouver to play for the Canadians and flourished immediately. For the rest of the 2022 season he slashed .298/.392/.411 in 40 games north of the boarder.
After this great season he earned a organization all-star award from Toronto.
This great start in A+ earned him a spot on the 2023 World Baseball Classic Canada roster.
Team Canada ended up struggling and he didn’t play very much but even getting the call for that must have been special.
The chance to represent your country at the biggest level is always incredible for athletes and especially for a player like Dasan, who at this point had not seen competition above high A.
He also got to meet and learn from some Canadians already in the show like Freddie Freeman, Tyler O’Neill and many more.
Returning from the WBC tournament for 2023 he had a big season ahead of him. He had a slower year, putting up a slash line of .218/.309/.315.
Even with this slower year he was able to show off the speed with 26 stolen bases. In the end, the C’s won the season and were crowned 2023 NWL champions.
In the finals he played well at the plate and held it down in the outfield against the Mariners farm team, the Everett Aquasox to win the season.
Returning to Vancouver for the on going 2024 season he brought some new found power, slashing .262/.371/.426, which is his highest slugging percentage since his 2022 stint in low A. He is also on pace for the most home runs in his pro career with 6 through 54 games, his best year for HRs was last season when he hit 7 through 107 games.
With how the speedster’s 2024 campaign is going, don’t be surprised if he gets the call to AA New Hampshire or AAA Buffalo and eventually the show with the Toronto Blue Jays.
