After a nine month lay-off the the Sportswave team welcome the Vancouver Canadians are back at it on the diamond playing their I-5 rivals the Everett Aquasox in a three game series.

Can’t remember when the C’s were held without a hit for the first six innings in months but on this night it was Vancouver’s offense that caught fire in the dying innings.

They were forced to erase a five-run deficit, but too little too late as the Canadians fell 5-4 to Everett in front of a 6,413 sell-out crowd.

Vancouver starter RHP Sean Wymer (0-1) had a tough professional debut going 1 2/3 innings of work allowing four earned runs on four hits as 2B Nick Rodriguez hit a two-run home run to left field as part of a four-run top of the 2nd inning.

Everett would add a run in the top of the 3rd inning before the Canadians bullpen locked in over the final six innings.

Aquasox starter LHP Max Roberts (1-0) was outstanding over his six innings of work retiring the first eighteen (18) Canadians in order taking a perfect game into the bottom of the 7th.

Roberts couldn’t record an out in the 7th inning as he walked SS Vincent Capra, allowed a hit to CF Tanner Kirwer followed by a two-run double to left off the bat of 2B Nick Podkulwhich ended his night.

RHP Ulises Perez was brought in and after retiring both PH Freddy Rodriguez and 1B Sterling Guzman, left a pitch up to C Reilly Johnson who quickly brought the C’s to within a run by hitting a two-run home run onto the ‘hey y’all!’ Porch.

The Canadians would and did threaten in the 8th inning only after 3B Bryan Lizardo led off with a double.

It was CF Tanner Kirwer that drew a walk off Perez, but Everett manager Jose Moreno brought in RHP Noah Zavolas who struck out 2B Nick Podkul.

This left both runners on base and then retired Vancouver in order in the bottom of the 9th securing the 5-4 victory for the Aquasox.

With the loss, Vancouver falls to 2-4 (.333) while Everett moves back to .500 at 3-3.

The Canadians host the Aquasox for game two of this current three-game series Thursday, June 21st at 7:05pm that sees LHP Randy Pondler (0-1, 3.60) takes to the mound for Vancouver.
