CANADIANS UNVEIL NEW YOUTH BASEBALL

The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation in cooperation with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vancouver have announced a new youth initiative that will see more than 300 local children receive the opportunity of playing baseball out at Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium this coming summer.

The 28-team, two-division Vancouver Canadians Baseball League will focus on local children between the ages of 5-10 out to the ballpark helping them learn the game of baseball while also providing them with skills that will help them not just on the diamond, but in life.

Children will be brought to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium from around the Lower Mainland by the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vancouver before the Canadians take over with all kids receiving dinner courtesy of Aramark Food Services, a brand new BC Hydro Power Pack Baseball Equipment Bag*, their own Baseball uniforms as well as full instruction from local coaches and Vancouver Canadians staff.

The league begins in early May with an eight-game schedule set for 2012.

Children between the ages of 5-7 will play tee-ball while children ages 8-10 will develop their skills on the diamond playing ‘coach-pitch’. The basic baseball training equipment will also be given to the kids, which they can utilize while practicing for the upcoming games.

The Vancouver Canadians Baseball Foundation has also announced a pair of community donations including a $20,000.00 donation to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds Baseball Program as well as a $20,000.00 donation to Challenger Baseball, a league that works with children who need additional assistance due to physical ailments.

Notes: Children within the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vancouver have been selected to receive a Vancouver Canadians Baseball Scholarship in 2012…

This scholarship gives the child the chance to play baseball within the Vancouver Canadians Baseball League.

The Canadians announced local businessman Bill MacLagan as the league’s inaugural Commissioner for the upcoming summer..

The Sports Exchange and Peter Parsons has made a generous donation in helping these children with proper fittings and reduced equipment prices.

*BC Hydro Power Pack includes a new baseball glove, new fitted cleats, a certified batting helmet and shoulder carry bag to tote the gear around in.
