A pair of early runs from the Eugene Emeralds held up as the Canadians offensive sputtered in the season opener with Vancouver falling out at PK Park 2-0 on Friday night.

LHP Randy Pondler allowed a run in the bottom of the 1st and 2nd inning likely not realizing at the time that those would be the only runs of the game as the native of Nicaragua went five solid innings scattering six hits in the loss.  RHP Dalton Rodriguez went two innings of hitless baseball while LHP Elio Silva allowed a hit but not a run giving the C’s offense a handful of chances to solve the Emeralds arms.

That solution wasn’t found as LHP Faustino Carrera went six innings allowing just two hits while striking out five while RHP Dalton Geekie (2.0IP, 2H 0ER) and RHP Luis Aquino (1.0IP, 0H, Sv) kept the Canadians offense at bay.

The loss drops the Canadians to 0-1 (.000) and marks the first time Vancouver has lost a season opener dating back to 2010 when they fell 6-3 here in Eugene.  The Emeralds improve to 1-0 (1.000).

Vancouver will play game two of this five-game road series on Saturday, June 16th at 7:05pm as RHP Jose Espada (1-3, 5.41 in 2017) takes on RHP Jeff Passantino (3-0, 1.17 at Midwest in 2018) out at PK Park with the first pitch set for 7:05pm.

The Canadians return to Scotiabank Field on Wednesday, June 20th at 7:05pm to host the Everett Aquasox for the first of three games.

Tickets to both Thursday, June 21st (7:05pm) and Friday, June 22nd (1:05pm) are available at www.canadiansbaseball.com
