4 Players 1 Coach On Roster

Once again we can brag about the athlete’s coming out of the local programs, regardless of the area they live in.

It’s always tough to select and narrow the players down, when so many are strong in different areas of the game.

This process was no different and the Head Coach of the Junior Women’s National Team Tony Foti stated

We started three years ago over 100 athletes and over time and several competitions, we finally narrowed it down to a total of 24.

Softball Canada held open evaluation camps in 2009 and this past summer, and selected 19 players to compete at the Canadian Open Fastpitch Futures Gold (U19) International Championship in July.

Canada won a silver medal at the tournament, which was held in Surrey.

‘The final 17 was a tough process, but I am extremely pleased and excited with the group we have’ continued Foti.

‘It has been a huge bonus for us to have had major camps and competitions leading up to the Worlds.

The nucleus of this team has participated in the U16 World Cup, the 2010 Junior Women’s Pan American Championship and this year’s Scotia-Bank Canadian Open Fastpitch tournament.

Adding to this they all attended a three 10-day camps, so we have been able to work and prepare this group like no other before.’
