Jim Mullin Joins CIS

Canadian Interuniversity Sport and MRX and Associates proudly announced Wednesday the hiring of Jim Mullin as director, marketing & media relations, for the 2011 Vanier Cup.

Working in conjunction with CIS and MRX, Mullin will coordinate all Vanier Cup special events, marketing and media relations operations from the Grey Cup Festival office in Vancouver.

His appointment is effective immediately.

As announced last November, the CIS football final will be held jointly with the Grey Cup at the newly renovated BC Place in 2011 thanks to a partnership between CIS, the Canadian Football League, MRX and Associates, and the 2011 Grey Cup Festival.

The 47th Vanier Cup will be played on Friday, November 25, followed by the 99th Grey Cup on Sunday, November 27. It will mark the first time in history the CIS title match is held in the province of British Columbia.

“We are very pleased that Jim is joining the Vanier Cup team,” said Marg McGregor, chief executive officer of CIS.

“The joint Vanier Cup – Grey Cup celebration this year is a great opportunity to showcase university football and Jim’s impressive experience and skills will ensure the Vanier Cup is a resounding success.”

A well-known sports personality in Vancouver and British Columbia, Mullin brings over two decades of professional experience in media, broadcasting, public relations and sports management.

He is currently a vice-president of Football Reporters of Canada (University Chair), a voting member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, and the play-by-play announcer for the Canada West football Game of the Week on SHAW TV in Western Canada. He is also the coordinator of the CIS football Top 10 voting committee.

From 2002 to May of 2011, Mullin occupied a number of positions for Chorus Radio in Vancouver including sports director at CKNW since 2007.

Following his graduation from Simon Fraser University in 1988, he successively worked for the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League, the Bellingham Ice Hawks of the BC Hockey League, SFU, Eurosport, CHUM Radio, CBC Sports, Rogers Television, as well as TSN’s Western Broadcast Centre.

“I’ve always had a passion for Canadian football and CIS, and I look forward to working with CIS, MRX and the Grey Cup team to make the Vanier Cup the success I know it can be in my hometown,” Mullin said

“Through this team effort, I think you’ll see unprecedented exposure for CIS football and I am truly excited to be a part of it.”

Congratulations to Jim on this position. Far way from CKNW
