Government’s Support’s 2015 Games

The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport) announced the Government of Canada’s support for the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George.

“Canada is a top sporting nation, and our Government recognizes the important role the Canada Games play in getting young Canadian athletes ready for podium success on the international stage,” said Minister Gosal.

“This is why we are pleased to support the Prince George 2015 Canada Games. We look forward to seeing our next generation of talented athletes compete, and to showcasing our country’s amazing athletic talent at this exciting event.”

“Today marks a special day for our city, region, province, and country. Through dedicated partnerships at all levels of government, we are able to inspire and enhance the lives of our youth, while helping strengthen the pride and spirit of our city and region,” said Stuart Ballantyne, 2015 Canada Winter Games CEO.

“We thank the Government of Canada for their continued support for amateur athletics and the Canada Games movement and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure we write a northern story in 2015 for the entire nation to enjoy.”

The Prince George 2015 Canada Winter Games will take place from February 12 to March 1, 2015.

The Canada Games are the country’s largest domestic multisport event and are the pinnacle of interprovincial/territorial sport competition.

The Games are held at two-year intervals, alternating between winter and summer, and they bring together participants from across the country to share the spirit of competition and demonstrate sporting excellence and cultural diversity.

The Government of Canada is the single largest contributor to sport in Canada and supports participation and excellence from playground to podium.

The Government of Canada will provide over $11 million from Sport Canada’s Hosting Program to the Prince George 2015 Canada Winter Games Host Society in support of the Games.
