Ballantyne Named CEO

The 2015 Canada Winter Games Host Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Stuart H. Ballantyne to the position of Chief Executive Officer for the 2015 Canada Winter Games, effective August 29, 2011.

Ballantyne, a double gold medallist in swimming at the 1977 Canada Summer Games, heads to Prince George after serving a year as the Chief Operating Officer for the Vancouver Giants Hockey Club.

Prior to his stint with the Giants, he served as Project Director for the Molson Canadian Hockey House during the 2010 Winter Olympics, CEO for the 2009 World Police and Fire Games, General Manager for the 2007 Memorial Cup, General Manager for the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship, and General Manager for the Molson Indy in Vancouver from 1996-2003.”

This is an event that will touch the lives of so many across Northern B.C., the province, and the country,” said Stuart Ballantyne, CEO, 2015 Canada Winter Games.

These Games will leave behind lasting legacies of healthy living for all British Columbians once complete.”

Hosting the 2015 Canada Winter Games provides us with a significant opportunity to showcase the great city of Prince George, I want to congratulate Mr. Ballantyne on his appointment as CEO and wish him much success as he leads the 2015 Winter Games team up to and through the event.

Stuart, a resident of Maple Ridge, is a marketing graduate of the British Columbia Institute of Technology (1984) and also attended Simon Fraser University on a swimming scholarship (1978-82).

He was inducted into the Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame and honoured as a BCIT Distinguished Alumni in 2010, is a director of the Greg Moore Foundation, an NAIA All-American competitive swimmer and former auto racing driver.

Stuart, his wife Terry, and daughter Madeleine are expected to arrive in Prince George late August, and are eager to become entrenched in the many initiatives that are offered in the community.

In other Games related news, event dates for the 2015 Canada Winter Games have been released, From February 12-March 1, 2015,

Prince George and the region will play host to 3700 athletes, up to 6000 volunteers, 1300 officials, media, medical professionals, and thousands of visitors,

This event will be the largest multi-sporting event to ever be held in Prince George and is projected to create an economic impact of $70-$90 million.
