The Vancouver Whitecaps are set to kick-off their 2019 season at BC Place and are expecting a huge crowd given the fact it’s their 40th season in the area.
Now we are hearing about abuse in hockey on a regular basis, especially when it comes to so-called Adults that want to live their dream through their Son.
Now we are hearing that the South Surrey-White Rock Youth Soccer Club Coastal FC has suspended a Coach all rising from “alleged” allegations of past abuse brought forward by a former high-level soccer player.
Remember that they are currently “alleged” and until it’s final let’s be pro-active and give everyone the benefit of doubt.
Earlier in an online posting via the web that was published earlier in the week, there were numerous (several) allegations of inappropriate conduct made against the coach, which we should understand that the allegations made are all prior to his time coaching at Coastal FC.
Tuesday evening of this week in the evening the soccer club posted a notice for to all members to read on its website indicating that “in the last 24 hours we have been made aware of allegations relating to a coach at Coastal FC.”
The message on the site continues to state “While these allegations pre-date his time at Coastal FC, the nature of them are of the deepest concern, as we strive to create a healthy and safe environment for all of our members.”
It continues to mention “We are seeing this information for the first time. We were not privy to any of this information at any point during the application and appointment process of the coach in question. As an immediate response to these allegations and to ensure that child/player protection is our top priority, we have suspended the coach in question, pending a more thorough investigation and to establish the facts.”
Coastal FC Executive Director Chris Murphy stated that “we had no knowledge” of the allegations prior to the coach joining the club a number of years ago, indicating that the safety of all club members was of the utmost importance to everyone in the club.
It’s important that all coaches involved in Coastal FC undergo criminal record checks, which more sports should undergo, more for piece of mind than anything else.
“The priority is making sure that we don’t put kids at risk – or anyone, for that matter, and that’s why we’ve chosen to take the course of action that we have,” he said.
